Live Colorfully: How I Stay Inspired

It's very easy to get caught up in the stresses of everyday. Most days I find myself jumping into bed right after a long work day because I'm "too tired". Lazy Sundays come around and I spend them with Netflix. Lately, I'm trying to snap out of my lazy daze to do things that are more beneficial to me and my time. Here are a few things I do to stay inspired/productive.

01. Keep your ears open: Put on your headphones and play music that gets you out of bed. All it takes for me is the right artist (depending on my mood) and I'm ready to work. Here are some songs that keep me alive as of late.

02. Enjoy your surroundings: Be in the moment. If you have to take your phone out to record something, take some time to really enjoy it first before you put a filter on it. Unless it's Jake Gyllenhaal riding a motorbike with a basket full of puppies. Then you might want to be quick to pull the trigger. I find most of my inspirations just from driving around the country or walking about the city. There's always something interesting to look at or something going on that makes me think about things differently.

03. Flip through the pages: I admit, I am a magazine hoarder to the nth degree. I love to flip through them and cut out anything I can use to put together a mood board or maybe just a random creation for someone. When it comes to blank walls, you can add so much character. I'm very aware that I can find just as good of images online, but there's just something about having all the photos, writing and content in your hands. It's a different and much better experience.

04. Find/meet new people: You can learn a lot starting with just eye contact, a handshake, or a simple hello. Allowing others to talk about things they're passionate about not only makes them look radiant, but it can also inspire you. I've learned a lot this year from the people I've met. From the importance of a good brunch on Sunday mornings, all the way to how to express my gratitude in a foreign language. Simple things, but they are all forming me into a better and more colorful person.

05. Coffee: Need I say more? Sometimes changing the environment I work in makes a big difference. Instead of staying home to work on projects, I find it nice to spend the afternoon at a coffee shop. And it's always a plus when they play good music.

06. Work what your mama gave you: If you haven't drawn, painted, or worked on anything creative lately, find some time and do it. What you create might just blow your mind. It'll make you feel accomplished and it'll always be there for you to look back on.

The next time you're feeling down or lazy, think of the things you love to do that better who you are. Staying inspired is important and will keep you moving in the right direction.

  1. I love this post! I'm really prone to lazing around as I suffer from chronic fatigue, and even on days when I feel okay enough to be doing stuff, I tend to be in the habit of doing not-a-lot.
